Rural Bank - Internet Banking takes
full advantage of the security provided by your Web browser
and by our Web server. Your transactions are encrypted as
they travel over the Internet. Anyone trying to "listen
in" on your communications will not be able to decipher
them.
Normally your browser displays a key
or a padlock in the lower right corner of its window. When
you are browsing a Web site that is not secure, the key or
padlock will appear broken or will not be present. When the
session is secure (such as after you log onto Internet Banking),
the key appears solid with a blue background, or the padlock
is closed.
In addition, a "PIN" (Personal
Identification Number) protects your Internet Banking accounts.
No one can access your accounts without knowing your PIN.
Your PIN should never be shared with another person. After
your PIN is verified you will be given access to the Internet
Banking site, allowing you to complete encrypted transactions
over the Internet, using the convenience of your Web browser. Your PIN should be changed periodically. To do this you can select the Change my PIN option from the Customer Services menu within Internet Banking.
As an additional security measure Rural Bank - Internet Banking also uses a session cookie to identify and keep
track of each secure connection. At the end of your session
the cookie is removed from the memory of your computer. You
should always ensure you logoff the system, when you have
finished your Banking to prevent unauthorised access to your
accounts.
Secure Logon
To log onto the Internet Banking site, simply type the following
information on the Logon window:
Access ID
Enter your access number, which was
assigned to you when you enrolled for Internet Banking,
in the box labelled Access ID.
PIN
Enter your PIN in the box labelled
PIN. Your PIN should be exactly
8 characters long and contain at least one Alphabetic character
(A to Z) and at least one Numeric character (0 to 9). No
other special characters are allowed. Alphabetic characters
are not case-sensitive.
Your PIN will not be displayed on the
screen. You will see asterisks (*) in place of the characters
you type.
Note:
It is important that you remember your PIN (particularly
after you change it), as access to Internet Banking will
be denied after 3 unsuccessful attempts. Also, please ensure
your PIN is kept strictly confidential and is not disclosed
to any other person.
When you select your new PIN, it is
very important that you do NOT select numbers that represent
your date of birth or letters that represent part of your
name because those PINs are easily guessed by thieves. If
you do select a PIN that represents your date of birth or
part of your name, then in most cases you will be liable
for the amount of all unauthorised transactions made using
those PINs.
Authentication Key
Enter the six-digit number generated by your security token into the Authentication Key field.
Once you have purchased and activated a Security Token for Logon, you cannot logon to Internet Banking without it.
To log on, you must enter your Access ID and PIN, followed by the Authentication Key generated by your token. The device uses Greenwich Mean Time so that it works anywhere in the world.
Click the Logon
button under your Access ID
and PIN to transmit your entries.
Once the information has been authenticated you will be
presented with your account balances.
By accessing Internet Banking you agree
to the Terms and Conditions. Please be aware that access
charges may apply and fees will be incurred for some of
the services offered. For a full list of Internet Banking's
fees and charges please contact Rural Bank on 1300
660 115 or visit your local Rural Bank branch.
Security Tokens
To further protect Internet Banking, Rural Bank has introduced a new Security Token.
A Security Token provides an extra level of protection for your Internet Banking. It looks like a keyring with a digital number display. At the press of a button, it generates a six-digit number called an Authentication Key.
Even if a thief obtains your Access ID and PIN, they will need to have an Authentication Key generated by your Security Token in order to access your accounts if you have it activated for logon.
You can also activate your token to lock your Payee lists and protect your payments.
